Batch and expiry markers

Batch and deadlines markers on boxes, cans and labels.
The indelible marking of codes, lots and expirations is mandatory to trace a specific production lot and to indicate to the final consumer the expiry date of a product.
It must therefore be indelible, clearly legible and immediately identifiable by the customer.

For those who produce the product, the marking must be easily applicable by means of equipment that is simple to use, reliable and possibly proportionate to the production that must be carried out in order to be within the right time and cost.

In fact, using a liquid ink marker is not advisable when you have to mark batches of few pieces as you would have to prepare an automatic line that is disproportionate to the production to be made and the ink, if it remained stationary for weeks could dry out.
Similarly, using a hand marker to mark too many large batches would lead to rapid marker deterioration, long lead times, unsatisfactory results and unnecessary consumption.

So here is a brief guide on choosing batch and deadlines markers:

Punch markers and thermal transfer markers

They are characterized by the presence of a type holder on which the characters must be mounted, usually in brass. After composing the writing, you must wait for the marker to warm up.
When operated, these markers make the characters touch an ink ribbon or solid ink roll (in rotary models) and transfer the color to the tag or case.

The operation can be lever, electric pedal or rotary for higher productions.
Usually the still empty case or box is marked.

Inkjet markers for boxes (and porous products) or bags (and non-porous products)

The inkjet markers allow instead to mark boxes, bags, cans on a flat surface. In this case, the full boxes or bags are marked after they have been sealed.

They are more flexible markers than punch models and are equipped with a product presence photocell.
You can write more lines of printout, simply recalling the messages already saved previously.
With these templates it is also possible to write barcodes, batches and logos.

Inkjet markers differ in print heights and ability to mark on porous or non-porous products.

These markers usually need to be installed on a small line so that the boxes and products pass at a constant speed in front of the print head.
They can therefore be mounted on continuous sealing machines, taping machines for boxes and motorized belts.

Hand-held portable inkjet markers

Portable markers are a middle ground between semi-automatic markers and automatic inkjet markers.
They are suitable when you want to manually position the inkjet print in certain positions on cartons, bags or labels. These markers do not require power cables but are battery operated.

Like all inkjet markers, they can mark batches, deadlines and logos on multiple lines of print in different formats and fonts.
