The hot melt gluing machines are usually used in numerous industrial environments, wineries and food laboratories for the application of thermo-fusible adhesives in granules or sticks for the assembly of parts and for closing boxes and cartons.
Numerous types of gluing machines are available on the market and they differ in terms of extrusion capacity, type of glue they can apply, speed of application and reliability.
Choice and types of the gluing machine
The 3 main types of gluing machines are:
- manual with stick diameter 12 mm
- manuals with tank
- automatic for lines, with very large tank
Manual with stick
Manual models with 12 mm glue sticks are usually used when you don’t have large surfaces to glue.
Usually the 1 or 2 mm nozzle allows you to apply the “strip” of glue by manually pressing the “trigger” of the gluing machine, however the greatest limitation is that the glue is melted at the moment of use.
The speed of application depends on the power of the gluing machine, so if you buy a gluing machine with a lower power than necessary, you risk wanting to apply more glue than the machine is able to dissolve, breaking the driving mechanisms of the stick.

Stick gluing machines are usually electric and operate at 220 V but there is also a battery-powered model, very convenient when there is no electric current available.
On the other hand, when you have larger surfaces to glue or when you need to use the gluing machine in a professional way, we recommend opting for the models with tank; these are more powerful than the stick models and allow you to melt all the glue that is present in the tank in a short time, allowing you to be much faster in the work you have to do.
Using these models there is no risk of seeing the glue “dripping” when the stick gluing machine is placed on the bench and there is no danger of damaging the drive mechanisms.
Manual with tank
In these models the glue is loaded into a tank and is completely dissolved upon ignition (in about 5-10 minutes). Extrusion always takes place by pressing the manual operating lever. The “push” of the glue is therefore manual but the glue is already completely dissolved in the tank so the extrusion can be very fast and without waiting.

Electro-pneumatic with tank
Suitable for professional use, electro-pneumatic hot melt gluing machines usually have 250 ml tanks and allow the glue to be heated by simply pressing a button.
Depending on the nozzle and the air pressure, large quantities can be applied in a few seconds or the glue can be sprayed in a “spray” version, covering a larger surface in a short time and with less waste.
Automatic with tank and for very high production lines
Unlike the previous models, this type of gluing machine is not usually movable and consists of a large tank (5 kg) of melted glue ready to be used. The application takes place through automatic machines (similar to taping machines) or through guns managed by operators. The “push” occurs through the pressure of the compressed air.
Type of glue
Each of these gluing machines can use different types of glue but the glues on the market differ from each other in terms of color, operating temperature, opening “time”, size of the granules or sticks.
It is therefore necessary to choose the type of adhesive based on the use that will be made.
